Sunshine State Games

Florida's Sunshine State Games are Olympic-style programs and events created throughout the state for amateur athletes of all ages and skill levels. From grass-roots development programs to the Senior Games, Spring Games and Summer Games, Florida's citizens have the opportunity and incentive to develop their physical talents and competitive abilities.

Of the more than 150,000 participants since 1980, many have gone on on to fulfill Olympic dreams or championships glory.  Thousands more have achieved personal goals and victories.  They all have been a part of a great Florida tradition of amateur competition that symbolizes the true spirit of Olympic-style sports.

As we provide Floridians with the incentive to train and the opportunity to compete, you are invited to participate in the 2009 Sunshine State Games.  The 2009 Summer Games will be held in Polk County.  Click here to find the various sports involved in Florida's Sunshine State Games.

Ambassadors for Aging Day

The Florida Sports Foundation, in association with the Department of Elder Affairs, hosted the seventh annual Ambassadors for Aging Day at the Florida Capitol on Monday, April 30, 2007.  Over 1,000 seniors attended the event's many festivities.

The 2007 Ambassadors for Aging Day event celebrated older Floridians and highlighted their talents and numerous contributions.  The celebration also recognized the extended role seniors play in our families, communities and workplaces as they live longer, healthier and more productive lives.

For the third year, the Florida Senior Games State Championships Athletes of the Year received their award at Ambassadors for Aging Day.  97-year old Roger Gentilhomme, a three-sport athlete from Dunedin, and Sari Kisbany, a table tennis player from Redington Shores, were on hand to receive their awards and accolades from Governor Charlie Crist and State Representatives Tom Anderson (Dunedin) and Jim Frische (Redington Shores).
